is a word in newspaper that includes a HUGE umbrella. Basically it means putting papers on newsstands, in the mail, or on doorsteps, and getting the money back home.

A lot of the Heralds went into the mail, for local delivery Thursday, which was very important to the advertisers.

Within a postal zone, we could actually stamp the address right on the paper and bundle them for that postcode.

Every flat surface in the office was soon covered with bundles of papers and ad inserts.

Papers going out of town had to be wrapped and rolled, and sometimes the inserts were omitted for geographic reasons

Of course, we had a legion of paperboys (of both sexes) who made spending money delivering Heralds once a week.

By midafternoon the office was covered with bundles and sacks and rolls and you-name-it

Everyone got a little giddy when it was finally done for another week.

It was all over about 4 o'clock, unless a paperboy was running late.

It all created a unique bond among the staff, which I shall never forget.
